Assuming these are elective deferrals and not voluntary after-tax contributions then you should not be able to do an in-service distribution of them unless you are 59.5 or it is a hardship withdrawal. Do not rely on customer service reps, read the plan documents and if you aren't certain have a TPA look them over before doing anything.
