Investing - Theory, News & General • I have to ask - What is the lure of TIPS?

I would say the lure is largely psychological. As expenses increase most people would prefer to have an asset that will rise as close to lockstep as possible to their expenses. It is simply a bucket strategy. And, in many cases, TIPS are simply going to replace the "income generated from work" bucket that was being used to pay expenses. But, personally, I am not a bucket type guy. I am comfortable with not viewing my assets in isolation and am comfortable with idea that at the end of the day all my assets are fungible. That and social security already provides a similar function and I see no need to double down.
