Yep, that was what prompted my question!
The Treasury securities used in the G Fund rate calculation have a weighted average maturity of approximately 13 years.
Well that's revelatory! I had no idea from looking at the TSP's Site Page on G that the weighted avg maturity would be 13 years, which is significantly higher than an intermediate fund like Total Bond Market Index (8.4y avg maturity). I incorrectly thought G was something closer to intermediate, but stable-value like ultra-short (which is Morning's Category for G - Ultrashort US Bond Fund).
