Personal Consumer Issues • Flaunt Your High-Mileage Car

2002 Toyota Sienna 202k miles.

This one is starting to become a big money pit despite being a Toyota. The catalytic converter doesn't work but it's exempt from smog. The evap system is busted. The suspension is starting to go. 91k miles or 13 years since the last timing belt / water pump change. Two years ago, I did spark plugs/coils which were never done before now. I also did the brakes at the same time. I always do oil changes once a year given the low annual miles.

I think I will not spend any more money on further non-safety repairs and keep assigning this car to the shortest commute (3 miles each way). I'm hoping to run the car for additional years rather than additional miles to extend the life without spending money. I have other newer cars assigned to longer commutes which I'm much more willing to put more money in.
