I am so happy to see fellow Bogleheads mention Malaysia, as that is often underlooked in SE Asian itineraries and often outshined by Thailand or Indonesia. I recommend visiting Borneo to see Orangutans, learning about the indigenous people there, going on river cruises to see pygmy elephants and so forth. Penang is great as is Kuala Lumpur. Bali is great too, as others have said, if you're strategic about which parts of the island you want to go to.
