Personal Finance (Not Investing) • On-Line Provider for Simple Last Will

All of my Financial Assets have my Dear Wife as Primary Beneficiary, and our only Daughter as Contingent Beneficiary. All major assets are held at Fidelity, where DW also has an account. Our Home is held as JTROS.

I'm looking to document this pass-thru, but local attorneys want to charge what seems to be a lot for a Simple Last Will.

NerdWallet thinks that the online state specific template approach produces a valid Will. They mention Nolo and Legal Zoom as good template providers, including Durable PoA and Medical PoA.

Has anyone used the online providers ??

Do we need 2 witness signatures ?? South Carolina does not require a Notary, but I can easily get one at our Credit Union.

Anything else to think about on this topic ?
How much is "a lot"? I created my documents using Willmaker several years ago. The software explains exactly what the signature/witness requirements are for the state you live in, and that's a disadvantage of not using an in-person attorney: many financial institutions won't provide witnesses any longer (even when they used to.) I'm not an attorney but it seems like it would be difficult to make a mistake in the simplest cases. In my example there is only one beneficiary and there are no relatives to dispute the will. Many of my assets, but not all, are pay-on-death to the same beneficiary. If most your assets are pay-on-death, such as retirement plans, then at least those would be unaffected by anything that went wrong with a will.

I would probably have gone another route if there were minor children involved, or otherwise a more complicated situation.

Also some of the online services offer consultation with an attorney for an additional charge.
