I just now finished season 3. Wow. A lot of things happened in that second half. It ended on a cliffhanger.I'm midway through season 3 of "Borgen". Am really enjoying it.
The series focuses on two areas: the Prime Minister's office and the TV newsroom that covers it. (Sounds like a "Law and Order" intro.)
The politics is interesting because:The acting is strong, the insight into Danish life and politics is interesting and fun.
- It's European - (Danish multi-party parliamentary)
- The Prime Minister (Birgitte) is an idealist with a strong moral compass; a fast and decisive decision-maker, sincerely wishing to do what's best for Denmark, but open to change when new info comes to light*
- Her family life goes through something unusual
- She rides her bike to work (when in the role of party leader)
- Her comms chief (Kasper) is whip-smart and has hidden layers
- An idealist TV news reporter/anchor (Katrine) completes the triad of compelling lead characters
- Plus, Brigitte's friendship with a colleague (Bent) reminds me of the relationship Carrie Mathison of "Homeland" had with Saul.
* BTW, I read a review that criticized Birgitte's decision-making, arguing just the opposite of what I said. Eye of the beholder and all of that.
We *really* enjoyed "Borgen"!
We first saw it a few years ago.
And then we watched it all again, from the start, a second time. We almost never do that.
We weren't quite as captured by the last (or next to last?) season.
It was definitely better'not knowing how the plot would be playing out, however.
We also really liked the casting.

The season was a mixture of things and I initially was distracted because Kasper looked so different...a bit heavier, different hair, lower energy level. Was it the same actor? (Yes.) But I did enjoy the various subplots, though nail-biting at times. Katrine really came into her own in her new advisor role.
