Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Is it safe to teach math to neighborhood kids for free at home, OR am I opening up myself for unnecessary lawsuits ?

If you are a man I would go to their houses so there are other adults there. Less of a concern if you are a woman.
I’m a volunteer coach (little league). Most of the kids live in my neighborhood. Invariably, the kids have gotten to know me. I routinely got kids coming by with gloves, balls and bats… asking “coach, want to go play”. We’ve got 3 parks/fields in walking distance. I’m typically in my open garage on the daily. We’ve got an understood rule. We can stand and chat on driveway and front yard. But no one goes in coach’s garage. And no one goes in coach’s house. Go back home if you’d need to use the rest room.

I’m a single middle aged man. I’m well aware of the profiles and stereotypes attached to me in society. Particularly men that volunteer and work with children. I’ve seen a whole lot of tragic incidents with juveniles during my 30 year law enforcement career. For ME, this is all about risk management. I want to avoid questions and raised eyebrows. And the last thing I need is a kid getting hurt in a slip/trip/fall incident while running across my tile floors.
