Personal Finance (Not Investing) • Home Insurance Premium Increases

Hello All,
Original Poster here with a follow up.

Following advice from this community, we sought quotes for our insurance policies (Auto, Home, Umbrella) from Erie and for good measure a few other carriers. I met with a local broker and asked him to quote the same coverages and also to review our policies and suggest changes if warranted.

To remind you of the specifics, we have been long-time Liberty Mutual customers who balked at an 87% increase (over two years) in our homeowner policy.

Our current annual rates with Liberty:

Homeowner $3023
Auto $1780
Umbrella $629 (for $2M in coverage)
Total for all three: $5432

Here is what we were quoted from Erie (which was the best value of the three companies the broker quoted):
Homeowner $2276
Auto $1071
Umbrella $180 (for $2M in coverage)
Total for all three: $3527

In some small ways, the coverage offered through Erie is better than Liberty's. (For example, if we need a loaner car, the reimbursement is slightly higher). One caveat: we have an older home with some remaining knob and tube wiring that we must remediate to be eligible for the policy. That is our plan.

I consider this a good outcome and thank this community for the feedback.
