You've done this with no issue? You would come out ahead because it's not equivalent, quarterly estimated payments vs year end withholding. If you try to do year end estimated payments with income throughout the year, you get late penalties. Surprising if that's excused if it's through withholding
Yes. My employer habitually pays bonuses in March, and the mandatory 22% withholding on that is the only tax I pay before December, generally.
Doesn't the IRS want equal quarterly payments via 1040ES?

If your income is not the same every month, then you must file form 2210. In that form you owe taxes based on your income that quarter.

The above is how I understand it. Is it really ok what you are doing? I realize I may be mistaken which is why I ask.
