Strategic action on an older HVAC is probably a good idea, but the suggestion of your DS also has merit as +$10K is not a small sum. As the unit is still working, use this time to obtain additional quotes from reputable installers for a better price and/or product. Consider additional manufacturers such as Bryant, Rheem, etc. I have had experience with Goodman and IMO they are cheap product with questionable durability. Use the time to research installers, pricing, rebates, etc. Solicit input from friends, family, NextDoor, and FB Local Communities.
